Research, Writing, and Publication Resources
There are a countless number of resources to help you search your family’s roots and write your family’s story. Here are just a few that I’ve found particularly helpful over the years through the World Wide Web and living and working on Cape Ann in Massachusetts. Be sure to check out those that are available in your local area. And, if you have a useful resource to share, let me know through the Contact page. I’ll be sure to check it out and include it below.
Genealogy
Searching for ancestors can be done in the comfort of your own home with some travel to local, regional and national agencies or archives, depending on how involved you want to be in finding information. As you probably know, some searches can be done for free; others will cost money in terms of memberships and document reproduction. Oh, and don’t forget traveling to your ancestral towns, the best fun of all!

Everyone needs a little help now and then. Professional genealogists offer services ranging from consultations to help you on your own search to fully conducting your family’s search and writing its story. Genealogical associations offer a wide variety of resources, educational programs, and collegiality among genealogists – professional and hobbyists alike.

Book Production
Writing your family’s story is a great way to organize the information you’ve uncovered. It preserves your family’s history for generations to come. It also provides great family entertainment by inspiring discussions that awaken memories that lead to even more information! Your family’s story can be published from the simplest process of copying and binding to share with family members to creating a family website to the more formal process of publishing for sale to the general public.
